Of the 613 commandments in the Old Testament, Jesus selects two of them as the basis of his teaching. He wants us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Furthermore, he extends the meaning of “neighbor” to include everyone, especially those most in need.
In the Old Testament, the people most often to be in need were widows and orphans. God is especially mindful of them. The people are told that they must never oppress widows orphans, aliens, or the poor in general. Kindness to the poor will always be remembered.

How St. John Paul II Faced Fear (And How You Can Too)
“Be not afraid. Open wide the doors to Christ.” These were the first words St. John Paul II spoke to the world at his installation Mass in October 1978. They inspire us, but they’re also hard to live. Dr. Sri explores what these words really mean, why trying harder not to be afraid rarely works, and how John Paul II’s own life of suffering reveals a deeper path.
