Today we remember all saints. This feast day recalls all the saints in heaven that do not have their own feast day. Therefore, this includes a vast majority of the saints.
In the reading from Revelation, the white-robed inhabitants of heaven probably refers to the martyrs. Many saints were martyrs, missionaries, religious, educators, or health care workers. However, most saints are common, everyday people who lived out their faith as Jesus asks.
In the Beatitudes, we are reminded that the values of Jesus are different than the values of society. Our best way to reach heaven one day is to follow the virtues and values of Jesus.

Holy Cross Parish is asking for your consideration and support of this year's Diocesan Annual Appeal, TAO: Together As One. Although the Diocese of Sioux City has announced that TAO will officially begin in February 2027, waiting until then to make your gift could mean missing a valuable charitable tax deduction for the 2026 tax year. The good news is that gifts made before December 31, 2026, can still be credited toward your TAO commitment in 2027. By making your gift now, you can support this important initiative while also taking advantage of current tax benefits. On a diocesan level, your generosity supports ministries that advocate for the unborn, provide assistance to those who are ill, imprisoned, or nearing the end of life, strengthen counseling services, and bringing hope and healing to thousands of families throughout our region. Every dollar raised above our parish goal is returned directly to our parish community. These funds help support sacramental preparation, liturgies, and other parish ministries that enrich the spiritual lives of our parishioners. Your participation in TAO helps foster faith formation for both adults and youth through programs such as our middle school youth group, religious education classes/events, and a brand-new partnership with the world’s #1 prayer app coming this Advent. Your gift also demonstrates a commitment to maintaining our parish facilities, helping fund necessary repairs, upkeep, and improvements to our church and school buildings. Thank you for considering a gift before the end of the year. Your support allows our parish to continue serving our community as we do today by helping meet operating expenses and providing resources for parish projects and unforeseen needs that arise throughout the year.
Ways you can make a gift today: Online at scdiocese.org/together-as-one to make a one-time gift or to set up a convenient monthly recurring gift.

"When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them, saying: 'Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.'" - Matthew 5:1-12a As we continue this week, join us in praying:
That we continue to hold the Beatitudes close to our hearts and live them out well
That we are open to which Beatitude(s) the Lord is calling us to grow in
That we show patience, compassion, and resolve in the face of persecution
How often do we just say certain prayers without even thinking about the words or their meaning? Fr. Mark-Mary invites Catholics to commit three important and powerful prayers to memory and spend time truly praying them. Don't just say the words of these prayers, savor their meaning and allow them to transform your heart.
